Tulips

This feels like a companion to yesterday's painting.  I really wanted to keep it simple and I was  happy with it in the end. The two paintings are nice next to each other.

Red and Yellow

Well, I am thinking of these as my back yard blooms. We had a cold evening two nights ago so I picked a few, just in case. It will be interesting to collect items to paint from my own yard. Summer months my husband has a huge garden so there is always something new.

Fuschia and white

6" x 6"
oil on gessoboard

Last night I returned home late, after celebrating my oldest son's birthday. Unfortunately that meant I was a bit tired when I posted my note which in the light of day was a bit of a ramble. Sorry!
I am usually a day behind in publishing my paintings due to the fact that I have been relying on natural daylight for the photos and that is not always available to me at the right time.  I finally decided  that this was crazy and so I am treating myself to some new lights so that my images are less of a challenge. I had finished this painting yesterday but I was a little undecided about the fuchsia. I did ramp it up a bit, but only a bit. Anyway I do like this color so I left it glow in all its glory.

These were the flowers in my yard. It is very early for us to be having these flowers but I am happy to have all this sunshine and spring flowers.

Painting black cup

oil on gessoboard
6" x 6"
Email to purchase.

Well I wanted to paint a still life with a dark vase or cup as the background. This was a challenge and I definitely will try again. I think I will look for something with more texture or maybe not. I admit to fussing over this painting more than I like, but in the end I was satisfied. Hope you enjoy looking.

I was looking at the white cream pitcher and the white flowers.  As an artist I found it an interesting juxtaposition.

Painting Pink daffodil

Oil on gessoboard,

I wanted to put my paints down differently and this painting was the result.  If you are an oil painter reading this I would love to hear what is your medium of choice. I have been using different combinations of mineral spirits alone and alternately various combinations of mineral spirits and stand oil. In this painting I  used just straight mineral spirits and I like it but I think I will try 1 part stand oil and 5 parts mineral spirits next. What do you use?

As for the daffodils, they are just blooming here in Ohio. It is early for them but it is nice to see the beginnings of spring.

Painting daffodil

Oil on gessoboard

I decided to make this a bit larger. (I sometimes wonder if I will begin to think that  the world must fit into a 6 inch square! ) There is something so simple about a daffodil, and I wanted the image to maintain this simplicity.

Painting orange slice

Oil on gessoboard
7" x 5"

I found this small vase that my son made when we took a pottery class together years ago. It made an interesting contrast to the orange slice. I must admit I started these small paintings last year as a change from the larger abstract work that I usually do. I saw it as a way to work on a different scale and in a different medium as my large abstract work is done with encaustics. I now find these small works are compelling and hope that I can find away to continue to work on them as I take up my encaustics again for a show I will be in the end of June.

Pink Flower

I wanted to capture the delicacy of this flower.  I had some difficulty getting a good image of this without glare. I may need to figure out a better way to take photos.
